SYNON Introduction

Synon is also known as CA2E.

Synon is a Code Generator tool which is used primarily in AS400.

Its a object oriented tool which provides rapid code development environment.

Synon is number one choice to develop screen programs. You will understand its advangates as we proceed with this tutorial

Synon as a tool can generate Cobol/RPG depending on the configuration. A application developer need not to know RPG/COBOL or any other language to become a Synon developer.

Some frequently asked questions and my comments.

1. Synon is not available anywhere for practice/learning. I guess this is the biggest drawback of this tool.

2. Many companies are trying to move away from synon. So you want consider where you want to put your efforts.

3. Synon only runs on AS400/Iseries and many companies are trying to develop products on other platforms and are slowly moving away form AS400/Iseries.

4. I would recommend to learn Cloud/JAVA/Python and other open technologies as per your interest. The intention of this website to help synon user to quickly check commands when needed.
